The latest push to honor those enslaved and reinvigorate Richmond’s downtown actually makes sense. Manchester, Richmond’s historic neighborhood which started with it’s own charter, has been nominated by a progressive group calling themselves trueloverva to be the new home for the double A Flying Squirrels.
In a proposal rivaling the Shockoe Bottom pitch by the mayor, Manchester (in the area ‘north of Commerce Rd.) would receive an investment which would multiply the possibilities for an appropriate accomodation for a professional sports franchise. In December of 2013 Thalhimer’s, Richmond’s premier realtor, announced plans to develop an adjacent tract of land dubbed Reynold’s Tract. The investment of $10 million pales in comparison to what’s needed to build a stadium considering Thalhimer’s proposal for high end apartments and retail. But with such an outstanding opportunity of true leadership and potential for profit, Thalhimer’s has to pay attention.
